Unique hair colors: trendy, but not for the faint hearted
The world of hair trends, both concerning haircuts, hair styles and hair colors, has greatly evolved and changed in the last few years. While most people wouldn’t have dared rocking a very short pixie cut or streaks of blue hair a few years ago, unique hair colors have not only become acceptable, but actually fashionable, and everyone, from brands, to stylists and celebrities have consistently been trying to come up with the most outrageous or simply striking looks over the last few seasons.
While it is hard to pinpoint the actual trendsetter, celebrities like Lauren Conrad, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj are often seen as those who inspired women all over to adopt such unique hair colors, and start adding streaks of blues, greens, oranges and pinks to their otherwise naturally colored hair.
The different ways you can get yourself colored in
However, you don’t need to go as far as these celebrities when you choose to play with these hair colors. Celebrities like Sienna Miller, for instance, showed that you can make a statement without looking like a punk by sporting a custom blended, trendy, rose gold colored mane last year, showing that not all of these unique hair colors need to be loud and raise eyebrows.
Hair extensions
Another way in which anyone can rock unique hair colors like blues, greens and purples is by using clip-in hair extensions. While these have been around for a while now, the truth is, they have come a long way since they were last seen as a teenage or party trend, and can now be easily found in an array or colors and textures, at different price points. They are also much higher quality now, which allows them to look more natural and believable, especially when styled to match your natural hair.
Plan before you go for it
If you find, however, that you really do want to throw yourself headfirst into the world of unique hair colors, you need to be prepared for what could possibly be a long process, which includes finding the color you want – or even having to mix your own shade -, bleaching your hair, so that the color will take’ and shine as bright and it’s supposed to, as well as frequently going to the hairdresser’s or doing your own roots touch-ups at home.
Aside from that, you should also keep in mind that unusual hair colors, due to their pigments and the ingredients used in these dyes, are more likely to fade as well as stain your hair, so you need, once again, to be prepared for reapplying your hair color frequently. You will likely need to tone or bleach your again when you decide to change your hair color after dying it a unique hue, too, so you need to take really good care of it to avoid major damage in the course of these hair color changes.
Exploring the possibilities
Apart from that, there are endless possibilities when it comes to these hair colors. With the array of hues which are now available from indie brands such as Manic Panic, Crazy Colour and Fudge, you can pretty much mix and match to obtain whatever shade your heart longs for.
Whether you opt for a pastel ombré or a strikingly purple mane, these hair colors are the way to go if you are confident enough to turn heads and stop traffic with your blinding hair hue wherever you go.
